  1. Hi

We have a problem setting up the lsl trigger for PshycoPy and Aurora. The Python interface for lsl is an updated .whl file than the one in the Nirx trigger guide. Can you advise which one to use when we do the pip install?

    Thanks

    1. Dear Lucian,

Thank you for reaching us out. As you may see in the NIRx trigger guide (starting from page 19), the latest versions of PsychoPy (from 3.2 on) already have the LSL library integrated. You may download it from the following link and it will prevent you of the need to separately install the Python interface for LSL in PsychoPy: https://www.psychopy.org/download.html

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

      Sincerely,
      Blanca

  2. Hello Lucian,

If implemented as part of the hmrR_GLM function, it is regressed out as described in Gagnon et al (2011) DOI: 10.1016/j.neuroimage.2011.03.001. To use this function and see the citation, see this page: https://github.com/BUNPC/Homer3/wiki/hmrR_GLM

If implemented as part of the hmrR_tCCA function, it is regressed out as described in von Luhman et al (2020) DOI: 10.3389/fnhum.2020.00030. To use this function and see the citation, see this page: https://github.com/BUNPC/Homer3/wiki/hmrR_tCCA

Additionally, have you heard of the Homer3 forum? Its a great place to go for expert Homer3 advice! https://groups.google.com/forum/embed/?place=forum%2Fhomer-fnirs#!forum/homer-fnirs

    Kind Regards,

  3. Hello guys, we have some of your NIRScout devices, but for the project we’re currently working on in is necessary to get the device going on a linux machine, since there is a version of Lab view run time engine , MatLab compiler and NI drivers for linux, we think that it is posible to do get the device running on the machine. Currently we use NIRStar software when we use the device on a windows machine, it is posible to use the same software for the linux machine?

    Thank you for your help.

  4. Hi,
I’ve got trouble in setting up the software NIRSlab on my Mac os platform maybe.
Specifically, file ‘nirsLAB_v201706_pcodes’ could be added to MATLAB ‘tools’ and be launched successfully. However, the elements or characters above the UI or main menu couldn’t be demonstrated completely.
Here is the details about the version of my macos system and the MATLAB. MacOS Big Sur version 11.1 & Matlab R2020b- academic use.
    Sincerely thanks.

  5. Hi there,

This is Xin from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our team has been testing kids around 4 years of age using NIRScout. Kids often told me that the optodes poked them, especially at the forehead. We tried to size-up the cap, but that does not solve the issue.
For adults we used spring-loaded optode holders, with strings of weaker strength as the forehead. However, for kids, we intended to use the older versions of the grommets so that they won’t be able to take them out. I wonder whether you have heard similar cases and have suggestions for me? Thank you.

    Bets regards,
    Xin

  6. Hello

With our NIRSport2 we recorded accelerometer data, for this we want to use the .acc file (which can be found in the ZIP file in the output folder).
Does someone maybe know what the meaning of the different columns (separated by a semi-colon) is within this .acc file?

    Best,
    Astasia

    1. Hi Astasia,

The columns in the .acc data file contain the following information:

      1) start time of the frame: Date and time
      2) frame number
      3) plan_entry_index
      4) slot_index
      5) channel_index
      6) internal counter
      7) acceleration x-component [m/s]:
      8) acceleration y-component [m/s]
      9) acceleration z-component [m/s]
      10) gyroscope x-component [deg/s]:
      11) gyroscope y-component [deg/s]
      12) gyroscope z-component [deg/s]
      13) magnetometer x-component
      14) magnetometer y-component
      15) magnetometer y-component
      16) hall resistance

The acceleration, gyroscope and magnetometer sensors are used to detect motion and orientation in the three dimensions. The acceleration measures the linear motion, the gyroscope measures rotation and the magnetometer determines the orientation in relation to the Earth.

An explanation for all data files created by Aurora can also be found in the Aurora manual.

      Sincerely,
      Yasmina

      1. Dear Yasmina,

Belated thank you for your explanation! I did have a question on it concerning the acceleration, I was a bit confused. The manual gives m/s as unit for the acceleration, but a unit of m/s would indicate speed, whereas acceleration should have a unit of m/s^2. Does that mean that the values given in the .acc file indicate the speed in m/s or do they indicate the acceleration in m/s^2?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

        Sincerely,
        Astasia

  7. Hello, we are using Aurora+nirsport2.
Sometimes when we finished measuring, Aurora shut down abruptly after clicking ‘Stop Recording’ in the navigation pane.
Also found that two files (‘digpts.txt’ and ‘ —–.nirs’) were not saved. Other data were fine. So we have two questions:

First, What can we do to prevent Aurora from shutting down unexpectedly after clicking ‘Stop Recording’
Second, Is there any way to create ‘—–.nirs’ file using the remaining files?

    1. Hi Kjyida,

We are sorry to hear about this crash! Please send us at support@nirx.net the log.txt file that you may find under C:\User\Documents\NIRx\Logs in order to know the potential causes of this issue. Also, you can retrieve the *.nirs file by using the NIRS Converter that is installed together with Aurora. More information on how to use it may be found on the Aurora User Manual (please visit the SW section of our help center). Alternatively, please feel free to send to the support address your whole data folder and we will gladly convert it for you.

      Best,
      Blanca

    1. Hi Jourha,

The issue is probably caused by the the type of bmp file. To change the .bmp file open the picture you are working with in and editing software such as paint and save it as “24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib)”.

If this does not resolve your issue, send us an e-mail at support@nirx.net.

      Best regards,
      Yasmina

  8. I left a message above due to a login problem.
I bought a NIRSport2 last month and got the system delivered. However, the program called montage was not included among the programs sent. So, I want to log in to the website and download it. Please process quickly.

  9. Hi,
I got a problem about setting parallel illumination. Although I separated two sources and the distances of two sources are more than 6cm, it still shows the alert about optical crosstalk, but if I use standard illumination, the fnirs device can’t receive all triggers because of a sampling mismatch issue between the fNIRS device and the stimulation. So increasing the scan rating is a good choice, but what should I do to fix it now? Thanks a lot!

  10. Hi,
I got a problem about using nirsite to generate a montage for Aurora software with NIRSport2 hardware. What I designed is prefrontal 8X8 with short channel setting. However the nirstite can not generate a .cnfg format file. please help this, Thanks!

    1. Dear Jack,

Thanks for reaching out. NIRSite generates a montage file, which is a *_probeInfo.mat file containing different kinds of probe information. If saved under the option “Save for Aurora” it will automatically place the file in a folder where Aurora can read it and you will only need to create a new configuration there. In Aurora, under the configurations page, please select the button “New configuration”. That will prompt a new dialog with all the montages available under the aforementioned folder and you may select it. That will generate the *.ncfg file that houses the montage file & some parameters inherent to your experiment. Please see more details of this workflow under the following guide: https://nirx.sharefile.com/share/view/sf6d74060ae024e55925d38154a173905

  11. I’m having trouble registering my account. I have tried several times with even different emails, but I have not gotten an email approving my registration.

  12. Hi,

We are attempting to recreate your analysis for the fingertapping experiment by following your video guides. However, going step by step MATLAB and nirsLAB keeps crashing whenever we hit the “Filter” button in “Apply”. Moreover, it shows error when trying to compute the hemodynamic states.

How do we proceed from here? We are using the MATLAB R2013b version – the latest version compatible with nirsLAB as per manual.

  13. Hi,

We experienced some NIRS data loss during a session, we go the following error message ‘ Potentially lost contact to device, reconnecting’. We have not experienced this issue before, can you please provide insight to what might cause this.

    Best,
    Lucian

  14. Hello,
We try coupling fNIRS with EEG in a hybrid setup. We own a NIRSport 1 and a Cyton OpenBCI. NIRx ensures that their fNIRS are safe to couple with EEG, however, the fNIRS is causing a lot of noise on the EEG. Starting in the sampling frequency (7.8 Hz) and all its harmonics.

We tried different approaches, but none seem to fix the problem. Could you please help us with this?

    Thank you,
    Catalina

  15. Hello,

I am with the University of Cincinnati and we are facing a challenge with the NIRSport 2 and aurora. After turning on the NIRSport 2 and connecting the computer to the TP-Link Wifi and opening the newest version of aurora, aurora is unable to find our device. We are able to connect the device to aurora through a usb cable, but without it aurora will not recognize our device. We tried disconnecting and reconnecting along with multiple other approaches but could not seem to get it to connect. Could you please help with this?

    Thank you,
    Abby

  18. Hi,
I am using a NIRScout device and created a mountage in NIRSite but I cannot to create a topographic display in NIRStar, due to the probeInfo head model is not compatible (ICBM 152). How can I get another head model? Or which a the better way to solve this?

    Regards!

  19. Hi all,

I am using NIRStar (v14.2) to record the NIRx signal; however, I cannot open the automatically generated “_probeInfo.mat” in Matlab. I have compared the file with the ones generated in 2019 and found that the structure of the one generated recently is messy.
Could anyone have ideas or comments on this issue?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Best regards,
    Tingting
